In the weeks that followed my meeting Bert, and on into the next year, I called and corresponded with him regularly. I made a few trips down to Dallas during the Spring and Summer, and we spent some enjoyable times together. I began to feel better and better about Dallas, now that I had at least one good friend there. Because of the distance, however, our relationship didn't progress much further than that.
By this time, Guy, the man I had been seeing in Chicago, and I had moved apart- I think that he grew tired of only being able to see me one day a week (I was usually gone during the week and Saturday was his heaviest day at the Church). I talked to him occasionally, but not often. I think he has found a more constant companion, which is good for him of course; he talked about a man named Gale quite a bit in late Spring.
But Bert was instrumental in making me feel more comfortable about Dallas, and I began to seriously think about moving down there. If I did move, it wouldn't be for Bert; by this time he told me he'd found a partner who didn't live half a continent away. I was pleased to be able to meet him on a subsequent trip to the city. They were both very friendly to me.
So what with them, and with Rich and Rob, Greg, George and Brett, and a few others, Dallas was beginning to seem like a second home. Still, it is hard for me to think about leaving Chicago, since I have spent so much time here and know my way around the city so well, but I can no longer pretend that there is no chance at all that I will move. We will just have to see what happens.
