Fred's 40th Birthday Party

On Saturday, August 6th, I hosted a birthday party for Fred at my house. This is a milestone- his 40th- and so I invited most of the people I know. In what was becoming a tradition for birthday and holiday gatherings, we set up the tripod and took a couple of group pictures. Here is the first one:

From left are Fred, of course, then Lowery and Ron Drew, our friend Larry Marshall, myself, a friend, Dan Calhoun, that we had met through Mike Racke, and then Ron Mathis and Chris Young. We invited Dan hoping that he and Larry might hit it off, but so far as I know, not much came of it.

I made reservations for all of us at Celebration Restaurant up on Lovers Lane, and we had a real nice dinner there before returning to the house for coffee and cake. I got Fred a big carrot cake for the occasion.

Here at the dining room table are, from left, Chris Young, Larry Marshall, Ron Mathis, Dan Calhoun, Ron Drew, Lowery Evans and Fred, wearing a baby bib that Ron Mathis gave him with a lot of other baby stuff. Fred is not actually the youngest of this group- that honor belongs to Ron Mathis- but Ron made that the theme of the little gifts and card he gave Fred.

We had a really nice evening just sitting around and talking; in addition to this picture I took of Ron Drew on my sofa, here are a couple more candid shots from the evening:

Someone gave Fred a book of those new three-dimensional pictures that we have seen in the West End Market a couple of times. This picture shows again just how good looking Fred is. Everyone who sees him, from Greg and Larry to Ron and Lowery think he is real cute, and of course I think so too. I just hope the feeling is mutual.

Lowery has been a good friend for a long time, and I just wanted to get a picture of him by himself.

We took a second version of the group picture, and I want to go ahead and include it here:

Ron and Chris stayed around after everyone else had left and we played some cards (a Saturday night tradition) before going out together for a while.
