A Day in Fort Lauderdale

At Ron Drew's House

Fred and I have arrived here in Florida; we came down last night, late, and went down to the Floridian to have an early-morning dinner. Today, Saturday, we are getting ready for the arrival of Frank and Joe, but first want to head out to Ron Drew's house to say hello.

Ron lives in far northwest Fort Lauderdale, south of Commercial (the major east west street three miles north of me) and west of Powerline (about two miles west of me). Getting near his house is easy; working your way through the residential streets is what gets people lost.

Ron and Leroy live on NW 48th, which dead ends into the back of a commercial building. There are some commercial buildings behind him (north of him) as well, so the area is quite private and, at least at night, very quiet. Ron's house, as you can see from the aerial view, has a nice pool,- one that Leroy takes very good care of.

We stopped on the way at Atlanta Bread Company to get a bite to eat, and then arrived at Ron's house in the early afternoon. We found Ron and Leroy in fine shape, and we spent the afternoon with them. Leroy had cultivated a few really interesting plants on their enclosed patio, and Fred took some pictures of them. Frank and Joe were arriving about six-thirty, so we headed back down to my condo to make sure everything was ready, and then went down to Fort Lauderdale International to meet them.

Frank and Joe Arrive

Frank and Joe's plane was pretty much right on time, and we met them as they came through security out of the concourse. We picked up their stuff and headed back to the condo. There, I gave them an introduction to life in Florida by making everyone frozen drinks, which we all took down to the dock to imbibe. Sitting at the dock, I was answering some questions from Joe and trying to explain the layout of the area, a bit about the New River and about Riverview Gardens.

Frank and Joe were able to spend some time decompressing from their flight, but eventually we all got hungry and so Fred and I took them down the street to the Floridian Restaurant. We walked back after dinner, and then piled into the car and took the short ride over to Fort Lauderdale Beach, where I got a shot (admittedly a bit fuzzy) of Frank and Joe at the beach. Then we came back to the condo to relax and plan out some of the things we would try to do while they were here.
