Our Last Day in Fort Lauderdale

Morning at the Beach

Well, it's Sunday morning and our last day here in Fort Lauderdale. We have to leave for the airport around four in the afternoon, so we have most of the day to ourselves. I did have some packing that I needed to do in preparation for the renovation of the condo that will begin in about a month, but that won't take much time. So for this morning, we are going to head over to the beach once more.

Today, we walked again, just like we did yesterday. Fred just took the occasional picture, and so there is not a lot of explanation necessary for them. The thumbnails below are for three pictures that he took of the Intracoastal Waterway once we'd come down on the beach side of the Las Olas bridge over it; click on the thumbnails to view the full-size pictures:

We continued walking over to the beach, and walked up to San Sebastian again to sit for a while and people-watch. Fred got an interesting picture of a solitary sunbather that I thought was worth including in this album, and he also captured a typical street scene along the beach boulevard.

There has been a lot of construction activity along Fort Lauderdale beach for the last year or so, and there are a number of new buildings planned for the future. I expect I will be taking some pictures of them as I return during the summer to monitor the renovation of my condo. For now, though, Fred has taken a picture of the new construction near Beach Place.

And the last picture Fred took this morning was actually a movie to capture the activity on a typical section of the beach; you can look at that movie with the player at right.

At the Condo

When we returned from the beach, we stopped on Las Olas and had some lunch, then came back to the condo. I did a bit of cleaning and some packing, and then we got cleaned up and moderately ready to go. Jack Fontaine came by and wanted to show us his new Mercedes, so we went downstairs and Fred got this picture of Jack and his new car.

Finally, Fred took some last pictures around the condo, knowing that the next time he was here it would look entirely different. Fred has been in on the planning for the last two trips, working with me and Ty and Scott to pick things out and make decisions about the layout. I don't want to go into a lot of detail about the proposed renovation here. I have set aside a special album page (that you can reach from the Index for 2005 page) to detail the renovation and its progress.

But what Fred wanted to do was to record how the condo looked before it got emptied out, a task I plan to perform at the end of February when I return. So he took pictures from just about every angle and in every room. There were quite a few of these pictures, so I have put them in a slideshow, rather than in rows of thumbnails. If you want to see what the condo looked like pre-renovation, you can flip through the slideshow.

To view the slideshow, just click on the image at right and I will open the slideshow in a new window. In the slideshow, you can use the little arrows in the lower corners of each image to move from one to the next, and the index numbers in the upper left of each image will tell you where you are in the series. When you are finished looking at the pictures, just close the popup window.

After taking these pictures, it was time to head out, but I'd be back soon enough.
