A Book Club Christmas

A couple of years ago, we joined the book club that Mario and Steve were already members of, and we have enjoyed it. Each December, two of the members, Mark and Eric, host a Christmas party at their place on Turtle Creek. This year, for the first time, I took my camera along.

All I really want to do on this page is include some of the pictures that I took during dinner (to which everyone contributes something) and at our "book exchange." Here are some of those pictures:

At dinner are Fred, Mike (in his Santa suit) and Mike Hazel (taking the picture from the kitchen).

Below, at dinner, are, from left to right, Marlon, David and Fred.

At our "book exchange" are Mike Hazel, Jim Stumpf (in the back) and "Santa" Mike.

The book exchange works like this: Each member brings a wrapped book, and we all take a number. Beginning with the lowest number, that member picks a book and unwraps it. The next person may either pick a still-wrapped book, or may "steal" the book from any previous person. If you have a book "stolen", you may immediately pick a new one or "steal" someone else's (but you cannot steal your original book back). A book may only be "stolen" twice, after which it is owned permanently. In my experience, using this system results in everyone getting a book they want, even if it isn't the one they wanted most.

At right, at the book exchange, from left to right, Marlon, Rob, Neil, Vic, Mike and Patrick.

Below, at our "book exchange" are, left to right, Vic, Mike, Patrick, Alan and, with his back to the camera, Mike Hazel.

As usual, we, and I think everyone else, enjoyed the Christmas Party immensely, and we thank Mark and Eric once again.
