A Trip to Fort Lauderdale

I returned in late October to find that Grant had gotten quite a lot done. The new flooring had been put in, as well as the carpet, and it looked wonderful. Grant had also done some painting, and thoroughly cleaned the condo. It already looked 100 percent different. During that trip, we also went shopping for some furniture. We got a futon that could be used as a queen-size bed or be folded up into a couch. We planned to get a regular bed later, but just needed something temporary so that Grant could stay in the condo rather than with Ty and Scott. We found a nice rattan grouping at Burdines that would go well in the living room, and Grant ordered some baker's rack shelving to put a TV and stereo on. We purchased a small television, so that Grant would have something to do when he wasn't puttering around, and we got Selkirk cable to come hook it up to the cable system. When I left, we had spent the first few nights in the condo, finally moving off Ty and Scott's boat. They had been very hospitable, but we were beginning to wear out our welcome.

I returned one more time this year on November 10th; Grant had been down here pretty continually since we closed on the condo in September, but it would be time for him to return to Dallas with me at the end of this week. I have some pictures of the condo from this trip, and you can compare them to those Grant sent me in August:

We are looking through the bedroom towards the closet and bathroom. As you can see in this picture, the tile flooring is along the front part of the bedroom, so that the heavy traffic area won't cross the carpet all the time. Grant has taken the doors all off and gotten rid of them; we will be getting new louvered ones to replace them.

We have not taken the carpet through this opening, because we are going to close it up. We are also going to make the opening in the wall smaller, and put some louvered doors in so that the bedroom can be closed in. We won't be doing these major renovations until January or February. We are also planning to replace the ceiling fans with track lighting and new fans, but that too will be next year.

At the moment, this is a convenient place to store all our construction materials. The track lighting has arrived, but it will not be installed until after Christmas.

The tile looks wonderful, and makes the whole unit much lighter, more open and airy.

We haven't done much here except to clean it up. Grant will be replacing the wallpaper as a next project.

This is the corner of the bedroom near the bathroom door. The ceiling fan will be replaced when the track lighting is installed, and Ty thinks a floor-to-ceiling mirror would go well here.

At the end of the week, Grant and I returned to Dallas for the Holidays, but he and I will both be back in the new year to continue working on the condo.
