Traveling from Dallas to Rexburg, Idaho

I had arranged with Fred to have him get an hour or so off in the late afternoon of Tuesday the 15th, so that he could be down to my house about 5PM. This allowed us to get out to DFW for our flight a bit after 7PM.

We left DFW in the early evening of Tuesday, July 15, and flew to Salt Lake City. I always put us on American, since I have so many miles with them and get pretty good treatment as a result. The flight was a nice one, with a nice dinner, and due to the time change, we reached Salt Lake City about nine-thirty. By ten PM we had rented our car at the airport and were on Interstate 15 heading north.

I had already researched the route from Salt Lake City to Rexburg where we would stay for the first three nights of our trip. That route took us north out of the Deseret Valley on Interstate 15. While we could have taken expressway all the way, we took the more direct route of US Highway 91 to Pocatello; going northwest on I-84 and then back northeast on I-86 to Pocatello would have added fifty miles to the trip.

As it was, the trip to Rexburg was a little over 200 miles, so we did not get there until after one in the morning, having stopped for dinner on the way.

In Rexburg, we checked into a Comfort Inn right off the Interstate and right on the road that leads east to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. On the aerial view at left, the hotel is marked as a Quality Inn, and so I can only assume it has changed hands between 1997 and 2015, when I am actually creating these pages.

We tumbled into bed, hoping to be on our way to Jackson Hole fairly early in the morning.

We were staying here because we were not at all sure what kind of accommodations we might find closer to Yellowstone- about 70 miles away. This is the height of the tourist season, and we thought that it would better to take a known quantity, even if we were an hour or more away from the park. When we get there, we will look around to see what's available and if we find something affordable, we can make a reservation for the last few nights of our trip.
