Arizona Trip: Day Two
At Frank and Joe's in Leakey, TX

On Sunday, we got a chance to visit some with Frank and Joe before we headed off for Arizona.

At Frank and Joe's House

On Sunday, we were all up fairly early for breakfast. Joe had put the two of us in the upstairs bedroom, and it is very comfortable. When we'd got cleaned up in the morning, we came to the top of the stairs and could look down into the kitchen- which on the east side of the house. There was Joe working on breakfast.

Looking Down into the Living Room

Frank and Joe have a very nice house, which they built to their own specifications. On the first floor, the north end of the house has the two-storey living room and, on the east side of the room, the main entrance. South of that, just at the foot of the stairs to the second floor, is the dining area, kitchen and a little office area. Further back south, there's another entry from the garden, laundry room and pantry. The master suite is at the south end of the house, with views out across the valley.

On the second floor is a reading area/lounge at the top of the stairs, and then the guest room south of that, above the master bedroom below. The guest room has a balcony on the south side which again affords great views across the valley. The two of them put a good deal of thought into the location, orientation and design of the house, and it works very well in all respects.

As you can see in the picture of the living area at right, the decor is western/country and modern all at the same time. It is all quite handsome and very, very comfortable. You can see another view looking down into the living room from the second floor balcony here. And click on the thumbnails below to see a couple more of the pictures we took inside Frank and Joe's house there in the Texas Hill Country:

Not only have Frank and Joe done a really neat job of decorating the inside of their house, but they have also indulged their interest in native plants and grasses and natural artifacts to create a garden that surrounds most of the house. From interesting rocks to native plants to hummingbird feeders, they've created a mini-arboretum outside. This is, of course, an interest that Fred shares, and every time we visit them, the three of them are always discussing the merits and aspect of the various plants and flowers that Frank and Joe have acquired. I certainly don't know much about them, but I can appreciate their beauty. We had a good overnight visit with Frank and Joe, but at noontime on Sunday it was time for us to head west for an overnight stay near Fort Bowie.

Driving to Willcox, Arizona

From Frank and Joe's house, we drove back to the highway through Leakey.

We took Highway 83 north from Leakey to its intersection with Interstate 10, and then simply headed west.

We continued west all the way up to Interstate 20's merge with Interstate 10, and then continued west through El Paso and southern New Mexico. It was a long drive, and we had dinner in the western part of New Mexico.

We arrived in Willcox in time to get a motel room for the night. I'd mention the name of the motel and perhaps show you an aerial view, but from this point in 2012 I can't be sure which one it was (and it probably doesn't matter at all anyway).
