Our Florida Trip:
The Las Olas Art Fair

Some years ago, we happened to be here in Florida when the Las Olas Art Fair was underway. It occurs two or three times a year, I think- once in March, once in October and I think at one other time as well. This year, it happened to be going on the second weekend of our trip, and so we were pleased to be able to go out on Saturday and walk along Las Olas where the fair is held.

What they do is block off Las Olas from The Cheesecake Factory which is above and just east of the Kinney Tunnel over to SE 11th Avenue- a total of four blocks. Then they block off all the cross streets and finally arrange all the vendor booths in two rows on the north and south sides of the street. This makes it possible to walk by all the booths by making one big circle along the route. On the side streets, there are often food vendors or musicians selling CDs or other things like that. It is actually organized very nicely to make it easy to see everything.

There is usually a lot of interesting stuff at the Art Fair. On another page, you might have seen the old painted window that I purchased today and that we hung in the bedroom. But even if we didn't buy anything, there is still plenty to look at. For one thing, on one corner there was a vendor selling some interesting sculpture, and on one of the side street intersections we found some whimsical art that you would have to have exactly the right place for.

You may want to look at a short movie that Fred made with his digital camera of the scene here today at the Las Olas Art Fair. Just use the player at right.

We also took quite a few other pictures as we were wandering around the Art Fair this afternoon. If you will click on the thumbnail images below, you can see some of the best of them:
