Florida Trip Day 3

Morning at Riverview Gardens Dock

Today, Fred and I have gotten up early in preparation for Ty to show up to help with the new windows and doors. We made some breakfast, and then took our coffee down to the dock to sit for a while in the cool morning air, waiting for Ty to show up. While we were down there, Fred took some nice pictures of the river traffic in the brilliant morning sunshine, and I wanted to include some of them here. My New Windows Are Installed

Today, I am having new windows and doors put in. Since Grant and I bought the condo in 1989, we have had jalousie windows and doors. They have been serviceable, but suffered from a couple of problems. First, they never closed completely, so they were noisy and they let cool air out or warm air in. Second, many of the panels were the privacy panels, and the nubbled glass surface didn't allow much light in and made it difficult to see out. Plus they just looked very, very dated.

So, Ty helped me locate Bliss Window and Screen, pick out the new windows, and arrange for the installation. He has come over from the guesthouse to be here while the workmen are putting the windows in to make sure that we are getting what we ordered and that the workmanship is up to par. While the workmen were putting in the main living room window, I took a couple of movies of them at work, and you can watch those movies with the players below:

They finished with the living room window just before lunch, and so Ty and I went out to inspect it, and that is where Fred got this picture of Ty and I and my new window. Ty wanted to stay and monitor their progress on the kitchen window, and he had some of his own work to do, so he stayed behind when Fred and I headed off to get some lunch.

Lunch at Shirttail Charlie's

I've put in an aerial view of the New River and Downtown Fort Lauderdale area so you can see where Shirttail Charlie's restaurant is. It is located in the Shirttail Charlie's Marina complex on the south side of the New River west of Andrews Avenue. It is a great place to eat, but it would be much more convenient if it were on the north side of the river and reachable along the Riverwalk.

Anyway, we had our usual lunch there at one of the patio tables out on the dock, and we took some pictures out on the dock while we were waiting for our order. Both pictures look in the same direction- east across the railroad bridge over the river and in the direction of my condo. We were lucky enough to catch a train crossing the lowered bridge; this only happens a few times a day. Here are the pictures of myself and Fred.

In addition to the restaurant, Shirttail Charlie's has a marina, dry boat storage and chandelry (nautical store). Oddly enough, there is also a swimming pool between the restaurant and the store, and, once again, we took pictures of each other beside it. Here are those pictures of myself and Fred.

We returned to the condo, and for the rest of the afternoon monitored the progress of the window and door installers.
