Florida Trip Days 5-9
Some Time in Fort Lauderdale

Driving from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale

Well, we slept in this morning, and then Fred and Ron and Jay went out for some breakfast. After that, we packed up and headed down to Fort Lauderdale. Since we had different cars, Ron left a bit before we did. When we did leave, we just took the Beeline Expressway over to Route 441 where we had to make some jogs to get on Florida's Turnpike headed south.

Once we were on the turnpike, it was about 2-3 hours down to the Jupiter, Florida, area. Here, I started looking for one of the cutovers to I-95, since from now on the turnpike would essentially parallel the Interstate, and there was no reason to pay any more in tolls than we had to.

Right at Jupiter's Indiantown Road, we exited from the turnpike, made a very short jog on Indiantown Road, and then got on I-95 south. There are other ways to cut across, but this is the earliest, shortest route.

Once on I-95, it was a straight shot on down to Fort Lauderdale. It took another couple of hours, with a short stop for some lunch. We arrived at the Broward Blvd. exit along about four in the afternoon.

Finally, following the route we know so well, we took Broward Boulevard east across Federal Highway, then went south on SE 8th Avenue to SE 4th Street, and then two blocks to the condo.

As is always the case, everything at the condo was in shipshape. We turned on the hot water, I cleaned out the old ice from the icemaker, and we were all set.

A Few Lazy Days in Fort Lauderdale

We spent the next few days just "doing our thing" in Fort Lauderdale. We have been here so many times now, it is getting to be old hat, and we tend to do much the same thing from one visit to the next. We spend time in the condo, of course, me working on my photograph album and Fred doing his usual surfing. We play Frisbee, of course, and it is something of an afternoon routine. We saw Dr. Whitley, and of course we saw Ron and Jay a couple of times for dinner. We don't see Ty and Scott anymore, as they have moved out to Palm Springs, California.

So we just relax doing what we want to do and having our frozen drinks on the dock in the evening. It's a nice life. During these first few days, we only took a few pictures, and I have put thumbnail images for some of them below. If you'll click on them you can look at the full-size images:

Having spent some time to ourselves, we got ready to go meet Steve and Mario in Miami.
