Thanksgiving Trip Day 9
Greyfield Farms/Joe and Barbara Buchanan

At Judy's Farm in Elon

The day after Thanksgiving, Jeffie, Michael, Fred and I all came back over to Judy's, of course, to find her and Ted and Patrick preparing to cut down some tree limbs that had been damaged in the last storm. So while Ted handled the chainsaw, the rest of us carried limbs and branches around to get them out of the way. Fred snapped quite a few pictures of this activity, and I've put thumbnails for five of the best of these below. Just click on them to see the full-size pictures:

Here is Judy's tree-trimming crew hard at work.

Here's another movie from Fred of the rest of us clearing tree limbs.

When our tree trimming chores were done, we all went back inside to have some lunch and visit before Jeffie and Michael had to start back to Atlanta. While we were sitting around talking and playing with the dogs, Fred took a couple of good pictures of Jeffie, Michael, Judy and I, and you can have a look at those pictures here and here. We got the tripod out and Fred set up his camera to take some group shots before we all scattered. He took a number of them, but the one below was the best:

We visited a bit more before we said goodbye to Jeffie and Michael, and later in the afternoon, Fred and I took our leave as well. We were on our way to Jacksonville, NC, to visit Fred's friend Joe Buchanan.

Driving to Jacksonville, NC

We left Judy's house and worked our way back down to I-40 east to Raleigh. There, we worked our way around the south side of the city.

We continued south towards the coast on I-40, getting off at North Carolina highway 24 through Beulaville and Richlands down to the city of Jacksonville.

It's always a bit tricky for me to get to Joe's house; I can't quite get myself oriented correctly to find Woodland Drive, but find it we did by going around the city on US 258.

We've been to Joe's house before; it is a very nice, two-story colonial on a shady lot on Woodland Drive. When we got there, Joe and Barbara welcomed us and introduced us to their oldest son Wayne and his own son who were there for a visit. We had a nice dinner that Barbara fixed, and Joe showed off his "recording studio," where he indulges his hobby of transferring vinyl records to MP3s and CDs.

Joe and Barbara put us up for the night; the last time we were here we hadn't planned on that and already had a hotel, but this time we knew not to. Joe and Barbara are really, really nice people, and we enjoyed meeting Wayne as well.
