The Fourth of July in San Antonio

This year, as we have done before, we are heading down to San Antonio to spend the 4th of July holiday with Prudence, Ron, Nancy, Karl, and Guy. There are fireworks near Nancy's house on the 4th that we will go watch.

You have probably seen an album page where we visit San Antonio, but in case you haven't, I want to show you the route to San Antonio from Dallas and where Prudence and Ron are located.

On the left-hand map below, you can see the normal route from Dallas down to San Antonio. Not much explanation is necessary; sometimes we take the bypass around Austin, but most times we don't, and the trip to the San Pedro exit in San Antonio is usually four hours plus.

We head north on San Pedro Avenue a couple of miles and then either hang a left on Ashby and a right on Breeden or just a left on French to get to the Ruckmans' house on the northeast corner of Breeden and French.

In case you have not seen them, I have put below first an aerial view of the Ruckmans' house (it is the house on the corner and the garage/apartment building north of it where Guy used to live) and a front view of the house (taken in 2010).

We didn't take all that many pictures on this trip, as the major event was spending the evening of the 4th at Nancy's house.

Here are Prudence and I on her back steps, just before she took Jax for a walk on July 3rd.

On the 3rd we had dinner at Nancy's house, and Karl, as usual, cooked hamburgers.

During the day on the 4th, we took Jax for a walk in San Pedro Springs Park, where Fred photographed the historical marker at left. Later, we walked up to Philocoffee to have some iced tea.

We all went out to dinner at a restaurant near Nancy's house, and then we went there to watch the fireworks that are set off on the golf course right behind her house.

As for the fireworks, Fred took pictures while made a movie. Here are the best of Fred's pictures:

Now for my movie.

I went out into the middle of the golf course, maybe 300 feet from where the fireworks were being (professionally) launched. I had an unobstructed view of the display, and just kept my phone camera focused on essentially the same spot.

I began filming with the first airburst, and continued for about fifteen minutes until the final, multi-airburst display had faded away, and I was sure the fireworks had ended.

You may not want to watch all fifteen minutes of the movie, but I hope you will watch at least some of it. To watch the movie, just click on the image at left.

We stayed a few more nights with Ron and Prudence before heading home.
