A Visit with Judy in North Carolina

Dinner in Winston-Salem

This week I did a 3-day class for a company in Winston-Salem. It was pretty normal, although the only standout feature was that the company, a re-insurance firm, lost their New York office and about 100 people when the World Trade Center collapsed in 2001. Most of the people in my class had friends in the group of people who were lost that day.

On Wednesday evening, Judy and her friend Patrick happened to be coming over to Winston-Salem anyway to do something at the house Patrick owns and is restoring near downtown Winston-Salem, and so we arranged to meet for dinner at Mr. Barbecue, a restaurant close to where I was staying just south of downtown.

We had a very pleasant dinner, and the barbecue was quite good. I was going to be spending Thursday night with Judy over in Elon before flying back to Dallas on Friday morning.

During dinner, I took a couple of movies with my little camera. The first one was partway serious, to record Judy and Patrick at the restaurant, and you can watch that movie with the player at left.

The second movie was a little less serious, as I was trying to have some fun with Judy who really did not want to be a movie star in the first place. You can watch that movie with the player below:

Least serious of all was the movie that Patrick took, mostly of me, and you can watch that movie with the player at left.

Judy's Kitchen Greenhouse

After my class was done on Thursday, I drove over to Elon to spend the evening with my sister. Ted has come up from Charlotte, so I will get to see him, too. Judy fixed a real nice dinner, and we had a good visit.

My sister is at least as interested in plants as Fred is and, this being winter, she has brought all of her sensitive plants indoors into the kitchen. While they don't mean a great deal to me, I wanted to include them in this album both to give Judy some kudos for the work she has done and also to let Fred look at them.

We'll begin with the still pictures I took on Thursday night. I've put thumbnails for these pictures below, and you can look at the full-size pictures by clicking on the thumbnails:

Next, I took a movie of all of the plants, a movie which turned into a tour of the kitchen, even roping in Judy and Ted getting dinner ready. You can watch that movie with the player at left.

I also took a second movie Thursday night, trying to be artistic as the camera closes in on the amaryllis flowers. It's a wacky movie, but you can watch it with the player below:

Finally, on Friday morning just before I left to head over to Raleigh to catch my flight home, I made two more movies of all the plants in Judy's kitchen, and the second movie ends with a nod to the horticulturist. Please have a look at these two movies with the players below:
