Florida Trip Day 8

Lunch with Friends

Today is Saturday, our next-to-last day here. For lunch, we have gone to Acapulco Lindo to meet up with Ron and Leroy and also with Ron's friend from Dallas and Tampa, Tom Jackson, and his partner Rick Sevigny, who are here in Fort Lauderdale to scout out places to live. Before we went in to lunch, I took a picture of Tom, Rick and Fred.

Apparently, Rick's job is going to bring him to Fort Lauderdale so often that this is a better place for them to live, and that is why they are here looking. When Ron and Leroy arrived, we all went in to lunch and, after everyone had gotten their meals, I took a group picture of Ron, Fred, Rick, Tom, and Leroy.

We spent some time after lunch looking at a couple of places close by before Fred and I headed back to my condo to go for a bike ride.

An Afternoon Bike Ride

It was another beautiful afternoon, so when we returned from riding around with Tom and Rick, we put on our bike-riding togs and headed over to the beach.

We started out at the condo, of course, and went up to Las Olas and then east to the beach. When we got to the Las Olas bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway, we found that the bridge was up, and so we had to stop on the bridge for a while.

Here is a picture of Fred on the bridge with the beach behind him. From here, we could get excellent views of the Bahia Mar marina area where the Boat Show was still going on (the first two thumbnails below) as well as the boats moored on either side of the bridge here (the next three thumbnails), some of which were actually also part of the Boat Show. These five thumbnails are below, and you can view the full-size images by clicking on them:

I also took a picture from the bridge looking west towards the condo and made a movie of the bridge and the surrounding area- a movie that you can watch with the player at left.

When we hit the beach, we headed north, riding all the way up to Oakland Park and then back down to Sebastian Beach, where we stopped to sit on the beach wall for a while and watch the scenery- as Fred is doing here. This gay part of Fort Lauderdale Beach was only moderately busy this afternoon, even though the weather was very, very nice. Looking out to sea it seemed as if you could see forever, and there were just enough clouds to make the pictures more interesting.

I took the time to take a movie of Sebastian Beach (use the player at left to watch) while we sat and enjoyed the afternoon. I like stopping here on my bike rides up and down the coast; it's a generally quiet place to sit (the gays not being so boisterous as the young college kids further down towards the restaurants and bars) and there is quite often (Easter Egg Alert: The White Towel) something interesting to watch.

On the way back to the condo, we had to stop on the Las Olas bridge again because the span was open. We were on the other side this time, so I could get a picture of the boats north of the bridge and take one more movie of the activity at the bridge (use the player at left to watch).

Although we don't go home until tomorrow, these were the last pictures from this trip to Fort Lauderdale- our last one of the year. But we'll be back in February next year to host Frank and Joe, and then I suppose I will be here quite a bit as the condo renovation gets underway.
