The Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Well, it's Friday, and the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show is in its second day. Ty and Scott have taken some time off and the four of us are going to head over there and walk through the show. Friday is a good day to go, since it is not quite so crowded as it will be on the weekend.

The show occupies all the marina space at Bahia Mar, plus the marinas north of there, all the way past the Las Olas Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. We planned to meet Ty and Scott at the show, we having walked from the condo over there (since parking was likely to be at a great premium). As we crossed over the Las Olas Bridge, we could see Bahia Mar and all the boats chock-a-block with each other, filling the marina to overflowing.

We took a lot of pictures at the Boat Show, and the question is how to show them to you in this album. Certainly, I was not in the market for a boat, nor do I know very much about them, and so I have no great descriptions I can give you about each of the ones we saw. Actually, you probably wouldn't want all that detail anyway. But the pictures and movies ARE interesting, and the boats certainly WERE beautiful, and so I don't want to artifically edit them too much.

So I guess what I will do is simply organize the pictures into groups. One group will be general pictures taken as we walked around the show itself, and I will try to put these in time sequence (although I couldn't possibly give you a trace of our path through the show). Look at as many of them as you wish. Some other groups I will organize by boat, where Fred and I might have taken a number of pictures and movies aboard or around the same boat. Lastly, I'll have a group of miscellaneous boat pictures, where the picture focuses on a single craft but where there are not enough pictures so that I could make a group. That's about the best way to organize these photos, I think, so let's get started.

Walking Around the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

First, I have put some pictures of the show itself into a short slideshow that is below. Click on the image below and the slideshow will open in a new window. Use the little arrows in the lower corners of each image to move from one to the next. The index numbers in the upper left of each image will tell you where you are in the series. When you are finished looking at the pictures, just close the popup window.

I also took a couple of movies of us walking around, and you can watch those movies with the players below:

Other Boats at the Show

Other that the few boats we actually boarded and spent some time on, there were lots of other interesting boats at the show- powerboats, sailboats and huge yachts- and at least one boat with a humorous name. Below are thumbnails for the other pictures we took while here at the boat show. To view any full-size image, just click on its thumbnail:

On the Riverwalk

After we'd finished at the Boat Show, it was after lunch, so we decided to meet back at my condo and walk over to Shirttail Charlie's for lunch. We walked along the Riverwalk as we'd done so many times, and then crossed the river on the Andrews Street bridge to get to the restaurant. We waited for a table out on the dock, got seated and ordered. While we were waiting for our order, we took some pictures. I took one of Ty, Scott and Fred and Fred took one of Scott, Ty and me.

Fred also snapped a picture of some river traffic.

Ty and Scott were ready to call it a day, so when we got back to the condo they headed home. I did the exercise bike and then, as usual, we had our frozen drinks down at the dock. While there, Fred took yet another picture of some river traffic.
